Just to finish off my thoughts about VE-day and also our hike a couple weeks back let's take a closer look at the Pforzheim war memorial. The Pforzheim Monument remembering the bombing and complete destruction of the city over 60 years ago consists of 5 triangular pilars on the top of a hill made entirely of rubble from the buildings:
Each pillar has three sides, the first with a picture of what a particular spot in Pforzheim looked like before the war:
After the bombing:
...and after reconstruction:
In addition a second corresponding pillar is placed for each of the 5 at the location it depicts in the city:
The monument remembering those that died (almost a third of the entire city population in one night):
Peace everyone.
